Beam is Programmable

You can command Beam projector to do certain tasks using its ‘If this-then that’ feature. For example you can program it to show you the weather as you are getting ready to step out of your house. or show you the news when you wake up at 6:30 in the morning. There is no limit to the number of IF’s that you can use to trigger a THEN action.

Another welcome feature of Beam is its ability to connect to any device. You can connect Beam projector to a Mouse, Keyboard, Game controller, Speaker or a Smartwatch in addition to Smartphones and Tablets. Beam runs on Google’s Android operating system and comes with 8 GB of storage, a built in speaker, 1.3 GHz dual core processor and 20,000 hours of projection time.

Picture Quality

Judging from the pictures and videos, the projection quality looks ok with lights turned on and good when all the lights are turned off. Currently, Beam packs a modest resolution of 854 by 480 pixels, this and other features are expected to improve as funding pours into the project.

How it Works

Beam can screw into any light socket in your house and use that as a power source or it can also draw power from a power cable that comes with it. Once you plug it in you can easily set it up to project pictures and videos from your Android or Apple device onto any flat surface. Setting it up is really easy, just install the Beam app on your device. Currently the app is available for Android and iOS devices. You can also control Beam with its hardware buttons or with bluetooth devices.

Price & Ordering

You can order Beam right now for the lowest price by donating to their Kickstarter. The cost is around $399 for a Beam and $450 for a Beam and a beam hoodie. Beam is expected to ship around October, 2015. Beam has said that if they raise $800,000 they will boost the storage from 8 GB to 16 GB, if they raise $900,000 they will feature new colored cables, if they raise $1 million they will include a new color of Beam and if they raise $2 million they will include colored LED lights that also include a software control kit.
